Side note: We may have missed National Hog Dog Day by one day, but that’s not going to stop us from eating hotdogs TODAY, or any day for that matter!
The hot dog, an American staple, a favorite in ballparks, and even part of an eating contest viewed by millions on the Fourth of July. However, it is also what makes The Doghouse Grille in the Abacoa Plaza (not to be confused with Downtown Abacoa) a fabulous local spot to check out. It’s home to the mini dog. It’s a smaller version which gives you the option to try a few different ones. They have 10 varieties on the menu!!! I had the Dirty Dog and the Yankee Dog (no judging allowed). Both were flavorful and had that snap when you took a bite. Their menu has many other items to choose from with a delightful bar offering a variety of beers (both bottled and on tap) and wine. I usually prefer beer with my dog, but when I saw they had my favorite M.I.A. Spiked Seltzer on tap, I couldn’t pass it up. They have a great happy hour weekdays from 3pm-7pm. Wine Down Wednesday is always fun with half off wines that run from 3pm-11pm. If you are a baseball fan, it’s a great place to stop before or after spring training games. They usually run specials during that time as well as during football season. I would have to say The Doghouse Grill is a wiener, I mean winner. Sorry, I couldn’t resist!
